Planning a Jungle Safari at Tadoba: A Practical Guide
When to visit, how permits work, which gate to choose and how to plan your drives around a family trip.
When to visit
Tadoba core zones are generally open from October to June. February through May gives the highest probability of a tiger sighting — water sources shrink and animals concentrate around them — but it is also hot. November to February is the most comfortable weather for families. Buffer zones, including Alizanza, generally remain open year-round.
Choosing a gate
Tadoba has multiple entry gates across core and buffer zones. Alizanza is a buffer gate and our nearest, roughly a kilometre from the resort — which means a short pre-dawn drive rather than an hour on the road before your safari even starts.
Permits and booking
Safari permits are issued by the Maharashtra forest department and can be booked in advance online or taken as spot bookings subject to availability. Advance booking is strongly recommended in peak season. Approximate charges are ₹4,075 for advance and ₹5,000 for spot bookings per gypsy.
Morning or evening drive?
Morning drives start at first light and generally offer the most activity. Evening drives are shorter and warmer. Serious wildlife photographers usually book both across two days; families often prefer one morning drive with the rest of the day at the resort.
Planning around a family trip
A safari drive is three to four hours in an open vehicle on rough tracks — demanding for very young children. Many families book one drive for the adults and older children, and use the pool, play area, games and bonfire at the resort for the rest of the stay. Getting here
Nagpur is the nearest airport and major railway junction, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours away by road. Chandrapur is the nearest railhead. We offer pick-up and drop on request.
